Frozen

The trailer for Frozen uses many narrative techniques of a typical fairy tale and Disney movie. Applying Todorov's theory of equilibrium , the state of balance is the fact that Erendale was happy and had summertime with plenty of sun. Whereas when everything was turned to winter 'forever' which was said in the narrative in the trailer due to a queen. however the new equilibrium was not shown in the trailer which is very useful as it would give the whole story line away to the public which clearly doesn't want to be done as it doesn't raise any questions or any interest if they already know what the film is going to be about, but due to the idea of Disney films the majority of people have - everything will get better and happy again.

Due to the way the trailer ends (without a new equilibrium), it is full of Barthe's enigma and action codes, which are used to interest the audience and gain more people to want to solve these questions by watching the films. The main enigma codes that the audience would want to resolve is, whether or not 'Erendale' ever get summer back, how did 'Elsa' (The queen) gain her 'powers'? as well as why is there a talking snowman and what is the relationship between Christoph and Anna. Besides the fact that action codes aren't significant to this genre there are action codes such as when Christoph's sleigh was attacked by wolves and himself and Anna had to fight them off and when the 'snow monster' fought Anna and Christoph - this is important in a Disney film as is gives a sense of excitement and suspicion into what comes next especially in a trailer as it makes it more appealing.

Applying Propps theory, there is a clear protagonist in Frozen which is Anna as in the trailer she sets off to the mountains looking to find out what the issue was as she is presented to be a brave and outgoing person. According to the trailer Elsa is Antagonist as she shows signs and violence and somehow turned Erendale to winter. Due to this being a Disney film there are many aspects of the film which supports Propps theory as the moose-Sven, talking snowman Olaf and Christoph seem to be the helpers

The representation of gender in Frozen is not stereotypical towards females. Females are represented to be brace and powerful which clearly subverts the original stereotype of how females are in other Disney films especially in other Disney films as in Frozen the princess is seemed to be independent; due to the fact that she goes out to find out the real reason of why Erendale has turned to winter. Also, she is different to the stereotype of females as she can be determined to do something that is quite aggressive and violent fr example she fights off wolves when they come towards they're moving sledge with a guitar. She is also very adventurous as she sets off towards the mountains alone to find her sister to talk to her to find out answers on why she has left and what happened before Erendale turned to winter - this is not ordinary as females are usually made to stay out of danger and especially when they are part of a royal family whereas 'Kristen Bell's character is different as she is a hero and brave vulnerable or weak which is how females are normally portrayed. Therefore, the role of women and men has switched in frozen as the to-be-king was told to stay
