Video 1: Creative concept
Video 2: Narrative
IM NOT THE ONLY ONE - SAM SMITH
This
music video is an example of a narrative as it has key conventions due to the
short story at the beginning with no music which would demonstrate a story that
the producer wants the audience to know before the song. Also, during the music
video there are action codes which would excite the audience - when the female
representative buys matches and alcohol and when she burns clothes. Due to this
being early on the video this would portray enigma codes as to what has
happened?, why is she burning clothes?, why is she crying? This is a clear
demonstration of a narrative as it shows who the significant characters played
in the music videos are; the women – the person that has cheated (seen to be
the bad person). The clear message/ narrative that has been portrayed within
the video and this song is that the women had cheated but hasn’t told anyone
what she has done.
VIDEO 3: PERFORMANCE ELEMENT

ME AND YOU
CASSIE

ME AND YOU
by CASSIE is one of the main clear examples of a performance element music
video as it includes Cassie singing and dancing to the mirror. This gives a
sense of performing as you are shown different angles of her performing;
through the mirror, her performing to the camera and her not facing the camera
at all. This is very effective as the choreographed dance keeps viewers
entertained especially as the dancer is Cassie herself which would attracts the
audience and also sells her song due to the different elements and makes the
audience want to watch it more due to the clear talent that Cassie has shown in
the shots.
VIDEO 4: VISUAL EFFECTS
GOOD LIFE
KANYE WEST FT T-PAIN
KANYE WEST FT T-PAIN
GOOD LIFE by
KANYE WEST FT T-PAIN is an example of a music video with visual effects as it
contains drawing on the screen and editing with objects and artificial scenery
to make the video look fun and attractive to watch which will keep the audience
watching, especially as the objects coming on the screen and the lyrics fit
well together which will attract different age ranges also as the music will
attract an older audience whereas the video will attract a slightly younger
video but old enough to understand what the video and song are about. The fact
that the objects and the writing that pops up are timed makes it even more
enjoyable to watch as the audience due to the bright colours also.
VIDEO 5: CAMERA WORK
YELLOW
COLDPLAY
YELLOW by
COLDPLAY is an example of decent camera work as it is a continuous shot of the
singer (Coldplay) this is a love song about a girl who he finds “special”, the
fact that this is on the beach - adds to the song as the scenery is calm and
romantic. Since this is a continuous shot it adds to feel of love due to
continuity of the shot. This also gives a sense of performance as well as the
camera work due to the singer singing to the camera continuously through the
shot.
VIDEO 6: MISE-EN-SCENE
RED HANDS
WALK OFF THE EARTH
RED HANDS by
WALK OFF THE EARTH is a demonstration of a mise-en-scene as the amount of props
and different coloured costumes the singers have in their music video is very
attracting to the audience as there is a lot in the video that is going on. Due
to the instruments that are flying on and off, the costumes that are swaying in
the video creates a sense of freedom and dance, the confetti being thrown up
creates a sense of excitement which is what the song wants the audience to
feel. As the song is theoretically about a crime someone else has committed the
fact that there is a lot going on in the video makes the audience expects the
chaos but also happiness in the song.
VIDEO 7: EDITING (COUNTING THE NUMBER OF SHOTS)

WE FOUND LOVE
RIHANNA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg00YEETFzg
WE FOUND LOVE
is a representative of a music video with obvious editing. This is clear that
the video has been edited due to the mass number of shots as it cuts in time
with the rhythm and beat of the music and it reuses shots and introduces new
shots as the music video carries on which makes it amusing to watch, especially
for a young audience – due to the fast paced editing and the colours. Also, it
is clear to make a link between the continuous videos that have just been
edited and reused. In the first minute the video uses 34 cuts.
VIDEO 8: CHOICE OF ANALYSIS
BODY PARTY
CIARA
BODY PARTY
by CIARA is a music video based on a performance due to Ciara singing and dancing
in the video, also, the fact that she is dancing to the camera and also singing
to camera creates a sense of performance. The fact that this music video is set
at a party and she is the main person dancing demonstrates the sense of fun and
leadership which is fun to watch the fact that the dance is not only Ciara
dancing but two/three dancers are also dancing makes it more attractive to
watch and to be entertained through the performance concept. The different
locations that she is dancing in make it more original and appealing to watch
as they switch between each through a cut.
